Know how to let it go from a mess to the masses

From here my goal is to figure out how to get the entire chord sheet to print on a single page with the largest possible text. To accomplish that requires some fairly detailed fixes depending on the specifics of the chord sheet:

Change the margins to .5″, except the left margin which is left at 1″ so that I have room for a hole punch. Remove excess line breaks Remove extra content at the top of the sheet such as ASCII chord diagrams (I know how to play an Am7 thanks), tabs of the guitar solo (since I can only pick!), long narratives about when the person who posted the chords saw this artist play live, and so on. Fix important mistakes in the lyrics, or incorrect chords in some parts of the song, etc. Tweak the font size until the entire sheet fits on exactly one page Sometimes switch to two column mode to make it fit Deal with the one or two pesky lines that are a tiny bit to long to fit on one printed line without wrapping

Except for #4, all of these could be automated. Imagine if, every time a user posts a new song or saves an edit, a PDF was produced which was then available for download as an alternative to the “Print” link. They might even provide PDFs containing a bunch of songs — for example a single PDF containing all the best versions of all of the Rolling Stones songs with chords, one page per song. They

Whining about great, free content and services and my own unique needs

In closing, I’d like to acknowledge this is a bit of a self indulgent post. Yes, I am complaining about free services which I’ve enjoyed great benefits from for years. In the case of my single page print request I am even expecting them to make changes so that I can enjoy their service in a very specific way. I also understand that more players want tabs than chords and that a one page printout for a tab is usually unrealistic.

Still, based on conversations with other guitar players, I don’t believe these issues are unique to myself. I think that if one of these sites (or a new site) made these improvements, they could really dominate the field.

Have I overlooked a particularly awesome Guitar website? Do you agree with my prognosis?
