First 2 weeks
To all the people who’ve been wanting to play the guitar up until now, I’d like to say that it isn’t easy as you think. When I first started playing the guitar, I was already struggling. Certain chords were extremely difficult for me to play because I had thick fingertips. Often I would accidentally push down a string that I wasn’t supposed to. I was very frustrated and angry at myself for not being able to play properly, but I didn’t give up. I looked for applications that would teach/assist me in learning chords; I found . This application lets be tune my guitar and provides games to improve my skills. Spending many hours on this app, I practiced and practiced until I mastered some of the basic chords.
Learning songs was very difficult for me at the beginning because I didn’t know how to read guitar sheet music. As an alternative, I learned to read guitar tabs instead of music notation since it was easier to read and less time consuming.
Here is the difference between music notation(top) and tabs(bottom):
As of now, I am capable of playing very basic songs. The greatest achievement/song I can play so far has to be this soundtrack from a Korean drama called (I am still working on the intro though):
Why did I choose the guitar in the first place
When I first thought about playing an instrument, the piano and the guitar came to my mind. I wanted to play the piano because of its popularity (easier to find help from friends & family), and the fact that it was a pretty basic and easy to play instrument. On the other hand, I wanted to try learning the guitar because of it’s portability and its higher level of difficulty (more of a challenge). In the end, I chose the guitar because I could play music wherever I go.
My goal
My goal is to master fingerstyle acoustic guitar. Fingerstyle guitar is a way of playing the guitar by plucking the strings individually rather than strumming traditionally. What got me into fingerstyle guitar is a Youtuber/musician named . He usually makes covers of popular/trendy songs, but occasionally he makes his own music.
