You’ve found the right place! No matter what style of music or type of guitar you play, Knoxville Academy of Music is your best choice when it comes to Knoxville guitar lessons.
Our guitar instructors teach:
WHAT DO YOU LEARN IN GUITAR LESSONS? (ages 4 and up) Beginner students can expect to work on chords, simple songs and melodies, sight-reading, and theory. We balance musicianship and fun by making sure that at each lesson you are challenged with a new technical or theory concept, but always end with something fun- such as your favorite riff or song. We use a variety of guitar method books to accomplish this and encourage students to bring CDs or their iPod/Pad to their lesson to learn their favorite tunes.
WHAT HAPPENS AT THE FIRST LESSON? Prospective guitar students often ask that question. Our guitar teachers make it a priority to get to know you on a personal level and to become familiar with your personal musical needs and goals. We do not treat every guitar student the same in terms of what and how we teach. A 9 year old having their first guitar lesson will have very different needs than a 57 year old taking up guitar for the second time after having had lessons as a child.
ARE YOUR GUITAR INSTRUCTORS QUALIFIED? Many of our instructors have received their education from fine institutions, have gone on performance tours of the US and Europe, and have over 25 years of professional performance and teaching experience. In addition to their teaching credentials, our instructors have warm personalities, are extremely friendly, and strive to get to know each student and their parent on a personal level.
A guitar program especially designed for young children 5 – 12 years of age.
The Childbloom® Guitar Program is a comprehensive music education program for children between the ages of 5 and 12, developed by Kevin Taylor of Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas in 1980. The Childbloom method is currently in use throughout Texas and much of the United States and is the largest program of its kind in the nation. Our relationship with the Childbloom Guitar Program dates back to 1998 and since that time we have taught hundreds of young people to play.
Through an initial “limited-rote” approach, students can play music quickly and successfully. “We want to give the kids a learning victory in the first lesson,” says Taylor. “They don’t want to wait to play music.”
With the Childbloom Program, the student learns both solo and ensemble playing skills. This helps integrate the young child’s attention span and the adolescent’s expanding social horizon. Like the Suzuki method, parents are encouraged to attend the lesson with their child. “We have found,” says Taylor, “that the more parents are involved in this process, the faster the student learns, the more the student learns, and the more persistent the student will be.”
