Sam Bell takes us through some string skipping techniques for guitar in a progressive metal vein. This is lesson #1 in a series of guitar lessons Sam will be doing @Riffstation each month.
Sam Bell here. I’m going to take you through a concept which I like to use a lot in my writing and a lot of modern technical progressive bands use this kind of idea. Particularly bands like Veil of Maya and Chon. They use this idea of arpeggios and string skipping. This is based around 3 chords, C min 7, D min 7 and Eb maj 7. We’ll create an arpeggio for each of these chords and use string skipping in the process.
