Art of Tone is the website and production name of acoustic guitarist Max Roest. At the age of 4 Max started with music lessons in his hometown Amstelveen in the Netherlands. For about 12 years he studied classical guitar and was placed top 3 in several national guitar competitions. After 12 years of classical music he decided to start playing the acoustic steel string guitar to enlarge his musical perspective. His music is influenced by fingerstyle guitarists such as Andy McKee, Don Ross, Craig D’Andrea, Antoine Dufour and Preston Reed. A lot of techniques that were invented or reinvented by these great artists can be found in his songs.
In 2010 Max won the ‘Johan van Vossen’ price at the National Guitar Competition of the European Guitar Teachers Association. Max was awarded this price for the many different styles he presented in this competition.
Max released his debut album ToneWood on the 31st of March 2012. The album consists of songs which express all the different characters of the acoustic guitar.
Early 2015 a new EP or album is expected to be recorded. This will be released halfway through 2015.
