This is a new cd of more recent songs, done as sparely as possible. I am ever questing after the perfect acoustic guitar tone, and I came close a couple times on this record! I also love the power of the simple voice, supported by guitar, no hiding. Well, I set out for no hiding, though I must admit I did rely a little heavily on the reverb! And though also wanted the record to be solo, I couldn’t resist having my engineer, Harrison Sherwood, lay down a killer lead on “Motel”. Also, “Cold Saturday” just wouldn’t be itself without Lynn Kasdorf’s sweet pedal steel.
I was psyched to discover that the online music business has really evolved, and now you can order a run of just 100 cds at a time. It used to be that you had to order 1000 at a time, and that required significant capital. Now you can get that cd turned around for a lot less. Plus you get to design your own cd cover with downloadable templates, and that gives you some real control and flexibility.
We recorded the record at Harrison’s house, and we were able to get the tracks done at our convenience, rather than booking time at an expensive studio. Ironically, though these days we have lots of cool technology at our disposal, our goal is still to get that live, real, natural sound. Heck, I just want to get that old style but eloquent Hank sound!
“Glorious harmonies…wickedly catchy tunes…a jewel of a recording.” Buzz McClain, Washington Post My old band, One Horse Town, released a single cd, magnificently produced by our then keyboardist, Jon Carroll. He recognized the potential of our songs, and totally delivered. Even today, 5 years later, I am still thrilled by and proud of this excellent record.
