THE BANDS
Scott Marshall & Marshall’s Highway – a 4-8 piece act that’s heavier in style, potency, and nature. Driving beats and electric guitars dominate, yet the band’s versatility is evident in their ballads and the mix of genres they present. The Rock/Country collision takes place here, but there’s no bloodshed. It’s a crash everyone seems to enjoy! “For me, a full Marshalls Highway is the ultimate experience because I’m able to tap into any one of the genres I love without compromise. All the guys are influenced by and familiar with all of them, so they’re able to adapt and deliver the goods at full speed. Since some of the guys play with The Hillbilly Souls, at any moment, I can put on an acoustic and go there as well. Things really come alive when Pedal Steel, Piano and Saxophone appear. We really pull off a Rebel Rock, Outlaw Country, Blues and Bluegrass show and people seem to enjoy it as much as I/we do. All our influences in one Rock and Country fried Roll show with a lil’ Grass andBlues as the side dishes of honest to goodness.” — Scott Marshall Scott Marshall & The Hillbilly Souls – a 3-6 piece acoustic act with a strong Appalachian feel. Instead of a collision, this is more of a Bluegrass/County hayride with a couple wild horses pullin’ the wagon. “The Hillbilly Souls are a blast to play with! 90% of my songs are written on the acoustic, so this is usually the lineup that hears most of the new ideas first. Again, The Souls are an acoustic act that was essentially assembled to accommodate smaller rooms. I really had no idea that the act would become as popular as it is. The playlist for the most part is the same as The Highway, but with more of a stripped, back porch Appalachia sound and feel. Folks really get a kick out of the upright bass, the dobro, the mandolin, the banjo, the fiddle, and the boy on the box, as seeing such a lineup becomes as appealing as it is entertaining. It’s as American roots authentic as it gets.” —Scott Marshall ——————BAND MEMBERS——————– Scott Marshall: The Songs, The Voice, Acoustic, Electric, Resonator, Rhythm, Lead and Slide Guitars, Mandolin, Harmonica “I’m tremendously blessed to have been given the opportunity to write, record and perform with an amazing handful of musicians throughout my life, but over the last several years I’ve come to realize just how blessed I have been, and still in fact am!” — Scott Marshall For a full bio of Scott, click . ______________________________________________________________________ Joe Foxx: Bass Guitar, Vocals In addition to being Scott’s #1 go to Bass Player since they were teenagers, Joe was the driving influence behind Scott putting his Original Music out there behind a full band and then some. Their meeting on the streets during Scott’s homeless years evolved into a close friendship that would see them share many stages and will surely last a lifetime. Scott says that Joe’s bass playing and influence will always be theperfect compliment to his writing style, and something that has rubbed off on him, which Joe has been quoted as saying the exact same thing about Scott. Although Joe had to step down from the full time position, he still makes appearances when possible. ______________________________________________________________________ Art Smith Drums Introduced to Scott through former a Record Label Executive, Art has toured the globe playing drums and found a home with Scott. Within the first minute of the audition Scot knew that he was going to offer Art the gig. Scott says that Art’s ability to read his mind and feel were he’s going with a song is at times spooky. Art plays with conviction that found him a sought after drummer throughout Philadelphia. When not gigging, he’s on his boat in the ocean. _____________________________________________________________________ David James Electric Rhythm, Lead, Slide, and Acoustic Guitars, Vocals Scott met Dave in the 90’s when Dave filled in asguitar player for what would become a permanent spot in what became a successful band. It was their love for AC/DC and ability to play off each other that has kept them working on and off throughout the years. Although not a big Country music fan, Dave has an appreciation for all kinds of music. But at the end of the day, it’s stone cold rock ‘n roll he enjoys listening to and playing. When applicable, Dave performs with Marshall’s Highway. ______________________________________________________________________ Marshall Scott Piano, Organ, Ensemble arrangements Marshall is Scott’s Son, not his brother like he’s often mistaken for. Although it makes Scott feel good, he’s more proud of this fact. Of course, Marshall grew up in a house full of musical instruments of all kinds, music always being played, and playing an important part his upbringing and his mother and father’s lives. By the time he was three years old it was clear to Scott that it was the piano his son had taken a likingto. Marshall’s natural gift, ability, and ear for melody and production has found him recording on multiple projects including his father’s writing, recording, and producing soundtracks/scores for independent films and plays, his own pieces, and performs with Marshall’s Highway when needed while he studies music and the arts in college. ______________________________________________________________________ Dave Burt Piano, Organ, Banjo Scott met Dave through Rick while Scott was recording ideas in 2007. Known for his amazing ear and ability to deliver in the studio and on the stage, Dave has traveled the country and is referred to as the B3 king in some circles. His beautiful piano work is equally as good. Moments after first meeting at the studio, they realized they have much in common, including a love of faith, family, country, and shooting guns. When his schedule permits, Dave performs in Marshall’s Highway and never complains about not knowing the new material. He just askswhat key, then plays. ______________________________________________________________________ Scott Carl Upright and Electric Bass Guitars, Vocals Scott met Scott Carl when Vic invited him to play upright bass at an Acoustic show. Although Scott never performed with him previously, Scott Carl played the entire show, playing mostly songs he’d never heard before. Scott offered him the gig after the 1st set. Scott loves to play upright bass, and prefers the fretless bass over the fretted. He is the bass player for The Hillbilly Souls, but takes on the role of bass player in Marshall’s Highway when needed. Scott is also an established Upright Bassist in the Northeast Bluegrass circuit. When not performing, he enjoys fishing and time in his studio garage by the fire listening to music and jammin. _____________________________________________________________________ Rick “The Mechanic” Statkus In addition to being Scott’s Co-Producer and Chief Engineer, Rick Statkus is one ofScott’s closest friends whose vast experience in the field has served an even greater purpose than the obvious. In addition, Rick is a great bass player, guitar player, and vocalist, who can be heard all over the recordings and on stage from time to time. ______________________________________________________________________ Victor Clark Pedal and Lap Steel Guitars, Electric Rhythm, Lead Guitar, Banjo Scott Met Vic at an open mic. Neither normally attend them, but for some random reason they both decided to do so that night. Vic’s talent and multi instrument abilities complimented Scott’s originals that night, and were welcomed with open arms by Scott. Vic has always played from the heart and his influences are vast. He has a simple, “less is more” approach, and although a lil shy on stage, hearing him play is the best way to get to know him. Vic records and appears when applicable, and Scott refers to him as the walking encyclopedia of the bunch. ______________________________________________________________________ Glenn Hofmann Saxophones, Mandolin, Vocals A former teacher, Glenn was introduced to Scott by Scott Carl when Scott was looking for someone to cut saxaphone tracks in the studio. A big fan of the late Bobby Keys, Scott was immediately taken by Glenn’s similar ear for melody, and ability to play with the band without ever rehearsing. Glen loves freedom to play from the heart and soul, and that’s what he does with Scott. The two hit it off and Glenn now appears when applicable with both of Scott’s bands. ______________________________________________________________________ Adam Frei Banjo, Mandolin, Dobro, Acoustic Guitar, Vocals After a twisted and bizarre twist of unnecessary events, Scott was looking for a banjo player. A drunk patron at a festival gave Scott the number for a banjo player the patron said was his cousin, whom he thought would be a perfect fit for the band. Scott found the number and made acall. Adam is a seasoned Musician who played in several regional bands and was currently only performing in his own Duo and teaching at his music studio. The two got together one afternoon and once again, after about five minutes of playing it was clear that there was chemistry and much in common. To this day Adam still doesn’t know which one of his drunk cousins gave Scott the number, but the two are thankful that he did, hopeful he’s still alive, and often wonder if he has any idea that they’ve been playing together for the last two years. ______________________________________________________________________ Jimmy Kidd Pedal and Lap Steel Guitars, Vocals Scott saw Jimmy performing with a band over a decade ago and was taken by his ability to combine Rock and Country on the pedal steel guitar. Recently, Scott found himself in need of a fill-in for a stretch of dates. Robbie knew Jimmy from the scene and gave Scott his number. Scott was thrilled at the idea of being able tocollaborate with Jimmy and so they did. Jimmy’s humble approach to performing and living life is infectious. So with those facts, his ability to deliver the steel, and the friendly vibe between them, Scott asked him to come on board. When applicable Jimmy can be found performing with both of Scott’s bands. ______________________________________________________________________ Robbie Bossert Pedal and Lap Steel Guitars, Baritone Guitar Although a fantastic pedal steel player and true country music lover, Robbie has a deeply rooted love for yesteryears rock ‘n roll. That was the foundation on which the friendship between Scott and Robbie was built. In addition to pedal steel, Robbie also plays drums and guitar, and loved the writing and recording process as much as Scott. He has shared the stage with the areas biggest names on the country scene, and remains true to the core. ______________________________________________________________________ Troy Heiland Drums Scott met Troythrough Vic. As The Hillbilly Souls popularity was increasing, there was a desire to introduce drums on a stripped scale. Troy was traveling back to the northeast from Utah and Vic arranged for him to sit in at a show just days after his return. Sure enough, that’s what he did: 3 sets worth of material like he’d been playing with them from the beginning. A music lover of all kinds, Troy has a fondness for the Outlaw Country greats his father introduced him to as a child. Troy’s ability to play in the pocket and feel his way through is exactly what was needed, and was exactly what Scott was hoping for. He immediately offered him the position. When his schedule permits, or as needed, Troy can be found performing in both of Scott’s bands. ______________________________________________________________________ Craig Carl Cajon Craig is Scott Carl’s son. Over the years, Scott bought him several instruments including a Cajon. He took to it immediately and soon his award winning highschool marching band would offer him a spot. After sitting in on several occasions with The Hillbilly Souls, Scott offered him the gig. He has been performing professionally for almost 2 years now and enjoys the laughs and traveling as much as the rewards. ______________________________________________________________________ Phil Pilorz Electric Rhythm, Lead and Slide Guitars, Dobro Scott met Phil through a mutual friend when he was looking for a well seasoned guitar who had country chops and knew how and when to use em’. Because of the rigorous gig schedule, setting an initial audition date was tough. Scott decided to invite him to sit in on a show and he did just that. Although he wasnt familiar with all the material, he played like he’d been in the bands since day one, and did the next 3 shows that week. ______________________________________________________________________ Ted Fenstemaker Fiddle/Violin ———————THE PLAYLIST———————-
