Welcome to the sixth Hanko Music Course! The Hanko Music Course will be taking place in Hanko on 10th – 15th of July 2016. The Course program will include high-quality private lessons and group lessons. In addition the Course offers pleasant free time activities and musical experiences in the concert series. There’s no age limit (except vocals 15 years). We’ll take every student’s age and playing experience in to account and every student will attend group lessons of their skill level. We welcome 12 year old or younger students to accommodate with their parents. Course program The Music Course program includes daily private lessons (5 x 45 min), group lessons every other day and free time activities. The lessons are in Finnish, Swedish and English. Group lessons will also be arranged for students who can’t yet read notes. This year it is possible to get instruction in the following instruments at the music course: piano, violin, cello, guitar, flute and vocals. Students who playdifferent instruments are also warmly welcome to the Course for the chamber music lessons. The Course also includes Emmanuel Tjeknavorian’s violin masterclass on the 14th – 15th (in English) and the world famous violin pedagogist Géza Szilvay is giving a lecture on the 14th July. There are plenty of opportunities to perform for all the students. The ending concert will be held at the Hanko town hall on Friday, 15th of July. Emmanuel Tjeknavorian’s masterclass in violin and Géza Szilvay’s lecture on International Minifiddlers The music course will feature Emmanuel Tjeknavorian’s masterclass in violin 14.–15.7. (in english). It’s possible to buy 30 minute private lessons with Tjeknavorian for 40€/30 min (the other course participants will participate as passive students). On the 14th of July world renowned violin pedagogue Géza Szilvay will hold a lecture about the meaning of parents for a child’s music studies. There will also be a demonstration of the International Minifiddlers methodof teaching. Course location The lessons and accommodation will be taking place at Haagapuisto school (Haagapuisto, Hanko), Hanko congregation and at the facilities of Hanko city in the centre of Hanko. The best beaches of Hanko and the concert venues lies within a mile from the Course site. Course attendees and their parents can buy tickets to the Fringe clubconcerts for the cheaper price of 8 €/ticket and 30 € /club pass (includes access to all 4 concerts) The course will be filled in the order of applications. We will e-mail you the invoice. You can cancel your attendance in force majeure situation in which case the course fee will be returned with the exception of a 50 € service fee. The last day for course applications is May 29th. After this date a service fee of 50 € will be added to applications. Teachers Noa Nakai, violin Noa Nakai started his studies in 1996 at Sibelius Academy. Nakai has attended several international masterclasses during his career and he’s played under tuition of Mi-Kyung Lee, Per Enoksson, Hagai Shaham and Pinchas Zukerman. Nakai is a well-known composer and a violinist and he has two Master’s degrees in violin and music technology. Currently Nakai is working on an international projects where he teaches violinists remotely. The focus is to offer high-quality lessons and pedagogy for places where the level ofteaching hasn’t been up to standards. Noa teaches in Finnish and English. Milla Rantala, violin Milla Rantala started her violin studies as a six-year old at Hanko Music School. Later she studied at Stadia University of Applied Sciences under tuition of Katinka Korkeala and Lajos Garam. Rantala graduated as a music teacher in 2007 and she has taught violin at Raasepori Music School and Music Institute Juvenalia. Milla teaches in Finnish, Swedish and English. Katariina Saarikoski, cello Katariina Saarikoski is particularly fond of teaching cello. Saarikoski graduated in 2009 from Metropolia University of Applied Aciences. At the moment Katariina is finishing her degree at Sibelius Academy. She has studied cello under tuition of Raimo Sariola, Sami Mäkelä and Tapani Heikinheimo. Saarikoski teaches in Finnish, Swedish and English. Satu Garam, flute & fipple flute Satu Garam started her flute studies at the age of 11 at Helsinki Conservatory. 18 years later Garam graduated and has studiedunder tuition of Kyösti Huuhko, Éva Hibay and Timo Pulakka. She has taught music for over 30 years. Currently she teaches flute and besides teaching she has a vast experience of performing music. Satu teaches in Finnish. Virva Garam, piano Viva Garam graduated from Sibelius Academy in 2006. She studied under tuition of docent and piano artist Eero Heineken and professor Erik T. Tawaststjerna. Garam has won several prizes during her career – she won the Fazer piano contest in 1992 and received a scholarship from Zonta association in 2006. Garam runs her own music school called Garam School of Music and works actively to grow the popularity of classical music. Esa Ylivaara, piano Esa Ylivaara is a Helsinki-based pianist, pianist teacher and a composer. He studied piano at Sibelius Academy and finished his Master’s degree in 2008. He’s studied under tuition of professor Matti Raekallio, Jussi Siirala and Matti Oksala. Ylivaara has taught piano for over 10 years at Avonia MusicConservatory. Esa has taught music at Hanko Music Course since 2009. Ylivaara is a versatile musician who’s inspired by great music beyond genre limits. Juuso Nieminen, guitar Juuso Nieminen was born in Finland in 1979 and began to play guitar at nine years old in the Vantaa Music Institute. In 1998 he began his professional studies at the Turku Music Academy and in 2007 received his Soloist’s Diploma with highest marks from Sibelius Academy. In 2006 he won first prizes in the Alhambra Competition in Spain and the Heinsberg International Competition in Germany in 2007. In 2003 and 2008 he received second place in the Michele Pittaluga Competition in Italy, and in 2008 he completed his Master’s degree at Sibelius Academy. Minna Nyberg, vocals Soprano Minna Nyberg is a versatile singer who has specialized in the art of baroque singing. Her soft tone with a rich use of vocal colors and her impressive talent for interpreting texts makes her an interesting and appreciated Finnish artist.Nyberg graduated as a singing teacher from Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences in 2008. She has studied classical singing for Tanja Kauppinen-Savijoki, Ulla Ståhl-Grapes and Matti Pelo. Since 2007 Nyberg has studied baroque singing with baroque specialist and singer Susanne Rydén. Nyberg has also studied musicology at Åbo Akademi University and received her Master’s Degree in 2005. Minna teaches in Finnish, Swedish and English.
