How It Works   The Instrument For young children (2-5), these bells make the ideal starting instrument. They stay in tune, are difficult to break and most importantly, they allow your child to focus on a single (or a select few) musical notes.    The Videos In the style of a kids TV show, Mr. Rob and the 8 Friendly Helping Bells take your child on a year long journey to a good sense of pitch and rhythm. Through simple songs and call and response, the videos provide your child with a fun and practical way to get meaningful exposure to pitch.   The Hand Signs The Curwen hand signs give kids a kinesthetic action to associate with each Solfege syllable. This helps children focus on their singing and even develop memorized pitch! Even babies can hand-sign which makes it a great introduction to pitch!     The Workbooks Reinforce the lessons learned in the videos and get screen-free musical play with our printable workbooks! Each chapter (month) has a 30-50 page workbook to get your childreading, writing and practicing music. Piano Friendly Though the Playground is designed around a set of colorful bells, the videos and curriculum can be easily used with a piano as well. All it takes is some inexpensive color coded stickers and any piano is instantly PSP friendly. Complete the curriculum once with the bells, and go back a second time through on the piano. How Long Is the Program? The Playground is a year long journey for your child! Starting with our Grand Opening in August 2015, you have immediate access to 30+ videos, 3 workbooks and 1 songbooks to get started. Starting on October 1st, new chapters will come out monthly. Each Chapter contains six videos and a workbook. Spend 5 minutes a day working though each chapters videos and workbooks. Because children learn at different speeds, we’ve provided plenty of supplemental activities. This way, if your child moves through the videos quickly and masters the songs, they won’t be left with nothing to work on! How Does the Playground Progress? The Playground progresses in 2 ways. In the musical sense, we start with a single bell (Red Bell C) and each Chapter (month) add a new bell. This allows your child ample time to experience memorable play with each individual note. In the story and graphical sense, the videos are themed to the months of the year. For example, the October lessonsfeature fall settings and Halloween episodes, while the January lessons have the bells skiing and riding on penguins. Though this might be a little out-of-sync for anyone who joins the program mid year, it does not make the program any less fun or any less doable. It’s a little like Netflixing a show from start to finish and running into a holiday episode somewhere mid-season. We set it up this way so that preschool classrooms, which tend to plans lessons around the seasons and months of the year, would have an easy time integrating their musical play into whatever other seasonal activities they have going on. Again, this shouldn’t stop you from joining the Playground mid-year. If anything, it’s an incentive to get in ASAP and see what seasonal lessons there are to follow. Does It Take A Lot of Time? The point of the Playground is to give children a repeatable, predictable and enjoyable way to get meaningful play with pitch. We highly encourage SHORT BUT REGULAR practice. It’s betterto get 5-10 minutes of practice each day than to only get an hour of music once a week. Again, we want to make memorable pitched based experiences for your kids and short but regular practice is the best way to do this. If you get really into all of the materials (videos, workbooks, songbooks) you will have plenty of materials and plenty of inspiration to keep the musical play fresh and creative for you and your child! What Age is Preschool Prodigies For? As implied in the title, Preschool Prodigies is designed largely for kids 2-5. It’s in this time period where children have the best chance of using a music curriculum to develop a life long sense of pitch. The Playground is an effective music introduction for kids of all ages in that the lessons are still relevant, powerful and enjoyable. Older children might find that the videos move a little slow for them however, and by elementary school, musically inclined children should be playing the piano! The videos also make a powerful toolfor teaching music to both children and adults with learning delays! What If I Can't Start Right Away? The Playground delivers a years worth of music lesson for less than a month of typical music classes. Once you are signed up, you have a years worth of access to the videos and curriculum. If you can’t get started right away, that’s okay, but definitely don’t delay too long. Remember that some children get exposure to pitch from the day they are born via their native language, and so it’s never too soon to start giving your kids meaningful exposure to pitch.
