On this website you will find a few thoughts and experiences of mine I’ve made and I will make while learning and playing the guitar.
I started playing around with a crappy guitar from ebay a few years ago. I don’t know why, but only after a few weeks I put the guitar into the corner of my room and stopped playing it. Today I’m really sad about this decision. I lost more than two years of useful practice time. But fortunately I didn’t give up playing the guitar for good!
Inspired by friends and musicians surrounding me during my stay at the US, I started a second attempt to learn the guitar. After playing my roommate’s Yamaha acoustic guitar a few times, I finally went to the Guitar Center in NYC and bought my own Fender acoustic guitar for $200 in the summer of 2011. With the help of , tab websites like and especially my roommate’s fantastic transcribing skills I tried to play songs from bands and artists like Chuck Berry, Dead Elvis, Demented are Go, Johnny Cash, The Sonics and many others.
When I came back to Germany I started things all over again. I realized that you first have to be familiar with the basics before you can start playing styles like Rockabilly and Psychobilly. On the other hand I had not enough money for attending private lessons. But the web is full of free and high-quality resources for learning the guitar. So I tried to learn and practice the guitar on my own. After checking out several video lessons on YouTube I finally started practicing seriously on November 30th in 2011 on the basis of .
After only two month of intense practice I finished the beginner’s course. I’m really happy about the progress I’ve made during that time. Now I’m feeling quite more comfortable with my guitar, started a band project a few weeks ago and even my roommates admit that I’m finally playing “music”.
For my regular practice sessions I’ve written a personal diary. It contains all exercises, chords, scales and strumming patterns that I’ve practiced since November 30th, 2011. Tracking my progress with this small booklet was quite motivating and helped to keep things running. As some of my friends were asking how I’ve learned playing the guitar, I decided to switch over from a private handwritten booklet to a public website. Maybe there are other people who are interested in my experiences, too. I hope you will like my new blog and read it regulary!
Cheers!
